A Brief History Of Apopka

The earliest residents were the Acuera people, members of the Timucua Tribe. The Acuera were succeeded by refugees from Georgia and Alabama and formed the Seminole Tribe. Members of the Seminole Tribe gave the city its name from the Seminole word Ahapopka for "Potato eating place". Tumultuous times forced residents deeper into the wilderness and the area became grounds for trading with the establishment of “The Lodge”.
