Bright Home Office in a Florida Home

With more people than ever working remotely, home offices are becoming commonplace. In fact, many home buyers are now adding a home office to their list of must-haves for a new home. Whether you’re planning on selling your home or simply want a dedicated space in the house to work comfortably and without distractions, these are some top tips for creating the perfect home office.

Choose a Quiet Area

You want your workspace to have as few distractions as possible so that you can fully focus on the tasks at hand. Try to find a quiet spot where you won’t be bothered by excessive noise or foot traffic. Avoid busy areas like the living room, kitchen or next to a bathroom. Rooms that face a busy street may also be problematic. In addition, you may want to consider removing televisions or any other items that could tempt you to procrastinate.

Remove the Clutter

The clearer your workspace, the clearer your mind will be. Get rid of any items in your home office that you don’t use on a daily basis and that aren’t providing any value. This could include piles of old paperwork, laundry, knick knacks or books and magazines that may distract you from your work. Your desk should have only the essentials such as pens, paper, and your computer.

Lighting is Everything

Great lighting will not only help you see what you’re doing better, it can also lift your mood and inspire creativity. Rooms with large windows that let natural light in are perfect for home offices. However, if you don’t have the option of natural light, consider installing lighting that is inviting and illuminates your main workspace.

Be Smart About Storage

If space is tight in your home working space, you’ll have to find creative ways to keep the things you need close by. Consider floating shelves, attractive storage boxes, or desks with drawers. Desktop organizers are great for keeping pens, paper and files all in one place. A well-organized space will help you be more productive and better focused.

Use Ergonomic Furniture

If you’re going to be spending a significant amount of time at your desk, ergonomic furniture is essential. You want to make sure your back and arms are well supported so that you don’t develop injuries or physical conditions in the future. Ergonomic furniture may not be cheap, but it is well worth the investment for the comfort factor alone.

Add Items That Inspire You

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut if you’re in a space that either puts you to sleep or bores you. Add some personal touches to motivate you and remind you why you’re doing what you do. For example, certain pieces of art may lift your mood and inspire you to be more creative. Plants and flowers can brighten up a space and make you feel more grounded.
