People walking along a beautiful hiking trail in Florida

The rainy season in Florida typically ends in September or October, which means that the months ahead should have perfect weather for exploring Florida’s amazing trails. There are hundreds of trails across the state—from the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic Coast and Central Florida—that traverse areas of incredible natural beauty. If you want to explore lush forests, mangroves, beaches, rivers and lakes on foot or by bike, these are some of the best hiking and biking trails in Florida.

Little Manatee River State Park

Located an easy drive from Tampa and St. Petersburg, Little Manatee River State Park has something for everyone. Hiking and biking trails meander through beautiful forests and along the banks of the Little Manatee River. There are also equestrian trails for those who prefer to explore on horseback. You can stop at riverside pavilions for picnics, go kayaking  or canoeing, and stay overnight at the full-facility campground.

Blowing Rocks Preserve

If you’re seeking spectacular oceanfront scenery, Blowing Rocks Preserve is a must-visit spot. This gorgeous preserve is located on a barrier island in Jupiter, and it features multiple trails that traverse sand dunes, mangroves, and limestone rocks where waves crash and create plumes up to 50 feet high. The area is also home to rare plants and animals including loggerhead and leatherback turtles.

West Orange Trail

The West Orange Trail is a paved multi-use trail that spans over 22 miles through Central Florida. It passes through peaceful wooded areas, orange groves and through the attractive communities of Oakland, Winter Garden and Apopka. The trail is open to walkers, runners, hikers, cyclists, skateboarders and horse riders from sunrise to sunset. Parking is available all along the trail, so you can hop on or off wherever you like.

The Legacy Trail

Soak up beautiful scenery and learn about the history of Florida’s Gulf Coast on The Legacy Trail. The trail runs for 18.5 miles from the Historic Venice Train Depot in Venice all the way to downtown Sarasota. Relatively flat and paved the whole way, The Legacy Trail is perfect for cyclists and joggers of all levels. There are 15 appointed rest areas, as well as interpretive signs along the way that offer information about local flora, fauna and history.

Florida National Scenic Trail

If you’re really serious about exploring Florida’s unique regions by foot or by bike, the Florida National Scenic Trail is a 1,500-mile trail that runs from Big Cypress National Preserve in the south all the way to the Florida panhandle. It is one of only 11 National Scenic Trails in the U.S. and it covers four distinct regions in the state. If you travel the entire trail, you’ll come across beautiful forests, prairies, marshes and interesting wildlife. Many people tackle the trail in segments over weeks, months or even years.

No matter where you are in Florida, you can find hiking trails and cycling paths that allow you to get up close and personal with nature. From urban bike trails in leafy parks to vast trails that run through the wilderness, there are Florida trails for all types of outdoor adventures.
