Historic city hall in Winter Garden, Florida

Over the past few years, many people have been making the move to small cities and towns where the pace of life is more relaxed than in big urban centers. Winter Garden has become particularly popular with home buyers.

Located just 20 minutes from downtown Orlando on the southern edge of Lake Apopka, Winter Garden has plenty to offer residents of all ages. These are just a few reasons why locals love living in Winter Garden.

Small-town Charm

Winter Garden may be a city, but it has a real small-town atmosphere. Plant Street is the main thoroughfare and home to many historic buildings that have been converted into locally-owned boutiques and eateries. The Saturday Farmer’s Market is another way to shop local and meet members of the community.

Varied Real Estate Options

The real estate in Winter Garden is incredibly diverse, so you’ll find homes for sale to suit all tastes and budgets. At the higher end you have grand estates with ample living spaces, swimming pools, lush gardens and lanais. Single-family homes include craftsman, colonial, and Mediterranean-inspired houses. There are also townhomes and condos for sale.

Active Lifestyle

If you love exercising outdoors, Winter Garden is your spot. The West Orange Trail is a 22-mile, walking, jogging and cycling path that runs along a decommissioned railway line through the city all the way to the shore of Lake Apopka. The lake is a great place to cool off with a swim or do some bird watching. The city also has plenty of parks to explore.

Excellent Schools

Families love that Winter Garden has a number of award-winning schools. The city is in the Orange County School District, which oversees many public schools for children of all ages. Some of the top schools in Winter Garden include Independence Elementary School, Sunridge Middle School, and West Orange High.

Year-round Warm Weather

Winter Garden has a subtropical climate, so it offers warm weather year round. The winters tend to be mild with mostly sunny days, so the city attracts many snowbirds who reside here during the winter months to escape the cold up north. During the summer it can get quite hot, humid, and rainy.

Prime Location

Although Winter Garden feels like a small town, it’s actually just a 20-minute drive from downtown Orlando. This means residents don’t have to go far to enjoy everything Orlando has to offer including amusement parks, shopping malls, diverse dining options, and the international airport.

Rich History

Established in 1857, Winter Garden offers a taste of old Florida. You can still see remnants of the past throughout the city in the historical buildings and interesting museums. Heritage sites include the Garden Theater, which was built in 1935, and the Central Florida Railway Museum, which is housed in an old depot from 1910.
